Tech Talk Part II will be a special session on email. We will talk about the following:
- Reading email headers. Every time something bad comes into the district, there is invariably a question about where it came from and why it got in. The first place we need to look is in the headers. That will show us the who, what, and why of that email's journey to your user's inbox. We will explore what headers tell us.
- Understanding why emails get hung up in Spam, Junk, or quarantine folders. Our users constantly complain about "missing" emails or emails that were not delivered promptly due to being placed in a quarantine-type folder. We will look at the email headers for what your mail systems know about the integrity and quality of the incoming email. Then we will follow the path into Google's email logs and Barracuda's email logs to see what we can determine. Even if you are not using Google or a Barracuda spam filter, the principles and starting points are the same.
- A better understanding of the DMARC framework
- Reading SPF, DKIM, and DMARC records.
