Weekly Tech Tidbit – Cyber Safety for Students

This week’s Tech Tidbit is shorter on my thoughts and words since the attached link below contains lots of reading on its own.

For the start of the new school year the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), part of the US Dept of Homeland Security’s National Cyber Awareness System put out a nice document with a collection of information and tool kits all based around Cyber Safety for Students.

While aimed at kids, most of what is in this collection can equally apply to the rest of adults in schools, some of which have just as much to learn about Cyber Safety as the kids. It worth a look to see if it can help with your Cyber Safety programs.

Quoting from their lead-in for the documents:

“As summer break ends, many students will return to school with mobile devices, such as smartphones, tablets, and laptops. Although these devices can help students complete schoolwork and stay in touch with family and friends, there are risks associated with using them. However, there are simple steps that can help students stay safe while using their internet-connected devices.
The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) recommends reviewing the following resources for more information on cyber safety for students.”

Hopefully, you will find several items in here that are useful to your programs as we continue to stress the concept that Cyber Safety is not just about technology solutions. Everyone must do their part to maintain a safe cyber environment in our homes and schools.
