Bob’s Top 5 for Cybersecurity

Back in April, I had sent Bob and Scott's top 3 solutions you should have in place NOW to best protect against cyberthreats.

  • Advanced Threat Protection firewall

Managed Endpoint Detect & Respond. If your district does not have this in place yet, there is no time like the present. Targeted ransomware attacks are on the rise again in education and there is no better way to protect your users FROM THEMSELVES than this. You gain access to a 24/7/365 SOC that is watching over your machine's activity continuously - yes on the weekend, yes while you're on vacation, yes over the break! It even plays well with most AVs so you can run them both (even though this is a certified AV replacement). This one is a no-brainer!

  • Multi-Factor Authentication

This simple solution will provide additional protection to applications with a lot of sensitive data like student information systems, financial systems, and email. Are your users duplicating password use? Are they using weak passwords? According to Microsoft, MFA can block over 99.9% of account compromise attacks. Some choices include Microsoft MFA, Google Authenticator, and our favorite, Cisco DUO.

  • Advanced Email Protection

How well protected is your email from phishing, malicious attachments, ransomware, etc.? Email has become the #1 attack vector according to most security reports. We recommend implementing advanced email protection. Not all mail filters that are packaged with your email provider are sufficient. This is a very important layer of protection in keeping the bad things out of your users inboxes. Some options to consider include Barracuda Email and Data Security and Cisco Secure Email.

Give us a call if you do not have all three of these services in place. We are here to help!
